Another week of bad picks in the books and the season total sits at 22-41. In an effort to rise above the .500 mark before season’s end, I will now begin picking better. I swear.

The crystal ball says the sure-fire picks are about to take a dramatic turn for the better.

Jacksonville (-7.5) at Cincinnati, 1 p.m. Sunday
If anything has held to form this season it’s that without Carson Palmer, the Bengals are one of the worst teams this league has seen in some time. I don’t expect things to get better with the desperate Jaguars coming into town. Jags -7.5.

NY Jets at Buffalo (-5.5), 1 p.m. Sunday
Brett Favre has reverted to his old form, throwing interceptions at an alarming clip. That won’t change Sunday. The Bills will get ahead early and make Favre pay for his mistakes. Bills -5.5.

Tampa Bay (-9) at Kansas City, 1 p.m. Sunday
The Chiefs gave a nice effort in their loss to the Jets Sunday, but I just don’t see it happening again. The Bucs’ defense is just too good for whoever the Chiefs’ quarterback is these days. Bucs -9.

Baltimore at Cleveland (-1.5), 1 p.m. Sunday
Derek Anderson is due for a big game and the Browns have a chance to get to .500 and back into the AFC North race. They’ll squeak out a home win here. Browns -1.5.

Miami at Denver (-3), 4:05 p.m. Sunday
The Broncos are awful on defense and are struggling mightily. But coming off a bye week, they’ll get things straightened out long enough to get a home win over the Dolphins. Broncos -3.

Philadelphia (-7) at Seattle, 4:15 p.m. Sunday
The Seahawks crushed the dysfunctional 49ers last Sunday, but at the moment the Eagles are healthy and dangerous. Eagles -7.

Dallas at NY Giants (-9), 4:15 p.m. Sunday
Never before has there been such widespread panic about a team that’s 5-3. The Cowboys’ offense has been stagnant without Tony Romo, but will get it figured out. Cowboys +9.

New England at Indianapolis (-6), 8:15 p.m. Sunday
Have the oddsmakers been watching the same Colts I have? The Patriots are adjusting well to the loss of Tom Brady and if they don’t win outright, they’ll keep it very close. Patriots +6.
