With less than 20 days remaining until the NBA regular season tips off, the public’s anticipation seems to be at an all-time low. What can be expected, where are the story lines?

If Sam Cassel and the Celtics' quest for a repeat is the top story line this season, the NBA is in trouble.

A washed up Shaq on the Suns / Kobe tries to lead the soft Lakers to the Promised Land again / The old, thrown together Celtics look to repeat / Lebron waits another year for his contract to expire / Larry Brown coaching again / Alan Houston signed by the Knicks … what ! / The Seattle Supersonics moved. Anyone know where?

Anything missing?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m an NBA fan. Maybe my lack of enthusiasm stems from the Indiana Pacers evoking yawns everytime I think about them. I’m glad they’ve rebuilt, gotten rid of the “bad seeds” and started anew, which they needed to … but that’s not exciting.

At least with Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson, and Jamaal Tinsley there were always things to talk about … Brawls, bar fights, stripclub shootouts, screaming at coaches, etc.

I need a reason to be excited about this NBA season, a reason to pay attention while football is still in session.

How about a reality show of intriguing NBA washouts? Put Manute Bol, Latrell Sprewell, Rony Seikaly, Vernon Maxwell, Charles Oakley, and Shawn Bradley in a house together to try to come up with a marketing plan for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Anyone intersted in a fantasy basketball league?
